They're a great option for busy families, and are becoming more affordable than ever before. But if you want top-tech features in your robotic cleaner, you're going to need to pay a little more.
The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid is a complete vacuum and mopping machine making it a great choice for those in a flat with multiple floors. Its dual motors give it an impressive cleaning capacity, and the vacuum's 0.6l dustbin can hold plenty of pet hair. The dust bin is easy to remove and empty which is great since you'll be required to do this frequently.
It's easy to set it up as well, but I do recommend fully charging the X8 Hybrid before running it for the first time. Install the Eufy Home application and follow the instructions to connect it to your WiFi network. Once you've done this the app will help you create an accurate map of your home. You can label the rooms, break large areas into sub-rooms to make it easier for open-plan living and guide the X8 Hybrid towards specific areas that require cleaning at a specific time. There are many other robots that have similar scanning and mapping functions, but Eufy's application is more refined and user-friendly than others.
The X8 Hybrid has a great feature: you can turn on the vacuum cleaner or mop by voice thanks to the integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This is a nice addition that makes the robot more hands-free. And it is working well in our test home.
The X8 Hybrid, like many robotic vacuums has some issues with bare flooring. It is prone to miss fur and small objects and can cause bumps to objects like its charger on the charging platform. It's also not as quiet, and the whirring sound could be distracting as with other models.
Roborock V3S pro
The robot doesn't have as many features as some of the more expensive models we've tested however, it does have all the essentials. It has a big dust bin that can hold a large amount of dirt before needing to be emptied. The vacuum and mop system is great for carpets with hard floors as well as carpets with a low pile. It's also quiet. We were able watch the TV while it was cleaning without feeling like we were constantly bombarded by noise.
Our test subjects were impressed with how easy it was to install and use, and they were amazed by its ability to get all the mess out of their floors. It even did a pretty excellent job of removing pet hair and messes on carpeting, but it wasn't as successful in tackling stubborn stuck-on stains. The app was simple to use and easy to understand. They were able set up the vacuum to clean on a regular basis to cut down on manual work. It doesn't include the ability to avoid objects or map technology, which means it cannot be sent to specific rooms or follow virtual borders (though magnetic boundaries can be used).
Another model from the iRobot's budget line which is the V3S Pro has some impressive features for the money. It was the most efficient robot vacuum we tested for mapping and avoiding obstacles. It's also a great budget choice for those seeking a more intelligent, self-emptying robot vacuum that can handle hair and pet messes on floors made of hardwood or carpets with low pile. It's also very quiet and comes with a massive dust bin that holds a lot of debris before it has to empty and you don't have to worry about constantly emptying it.
The V3S Pro did not make it into any of our top picks lists from reliable sources that conduct hands-on tests, however it received high marks from Modern Castle, Smart Robot Reviews and The Ambient. They appreciated how easy it was to install and use, but they did note that its battery life was short and it didn't manage to avoid some of the most difficult mess we've put it through.
